SHC of Palm Beach helps prevent local woman from losing home

A Lake Worth, Florida woman can now remain in her home thanks largely to the team at Signature HealthCARE of Palm Beach.

The 70-year-old woman, who lives in the low-income Genesis neighborhood of downtown Lake Worth, was on the verge of losing her home due to code violations and a lack of income to fix the house. Mark Parrilla, founder of the Genesis Neighborhood Association, became involved and then enlisted the services of the SHC of Palm Beach team.

Created in 2010, the Genesis Neighborhood Association’s mission statement is, “Caring enough to make a difference in our neighborhood.” The association accomplishes this goal by working closely with local government agencies, law enforcement, businesses and others.

In late April, department heads from SHC of Palm Beach, led by Administrator Nancy Thompson and Director of Spirituality Fr. Terence Belcher, gathered to spend an entire day painting and repairing the woman’s home.

The group plans to paint another home in the Genesis neighborhood soon, and Fr. Belcher said they want to do a community project on a quarterly basis. He recently attended a Lake Worth City Commission meeting during which a slideshow was presented to the mayor and city commissioners.
